Why generic charts miss
Two players at 5'10" / 180 lbs can need different kits because current gear, chest, and foot shape are not the same. Position does not change a tape measure.

Preference
If two letters both sit on the chart, mobility vs coverage can break the tie and pick a family (Vapor vs Supreme). It is not a reason to ignore the tape.

Brand reality
Bauer, CCM, Warrior, and True do not share one last. Hockey Fit Check gives a starting size plus “try this if between” notes so you are not locked to a single chart.
How to measure
A soft tape and 3 minutes. Measure over a t-shirt, not bulky clothes.
Body
Height without skates. Weight as you are. Chest just under the armpits. Waist where pants sit, usually at the hips for hockey pants — not dress-pant waist.
Limbs
Gloves: fingertip to elbow crease. Elbows: mid-bicep to wrist. Shins: sit, knee at 90°, center of kneecap to top of skate boot (not the tongue).
Head & feet
Helmet: circumference 1" above the eyebrows. Skates: your normal shoe size gives a quick starting size. Foot length and current-skate fit tighten it if you want more precision.

Protective gear that sits wrong is a safety issue. Hockey Fit Check will ask for the measurement that would fix a weak recommendation. Growing players should not buy two sizes up to “grow into.”
