A street shoe size is a starting point for hockey skate size. It is not a guaranteed skate size. Brands and models still differ.
Hockey Fit Check starts many skate Fit Checks from shoe size, then asks how a current skate feels. Foot length is optional precision.
Length vs fit
Length is how long the boot is. Toes can brush the cap when you stand; they should not be jammed when you flex.
Fit / shape is volume and width. If length is right and the forefoot is crushed, that is usually volume — not a reason to jump a full size.
What a generic chart cannot do
A chart cannot feel heel lock. It cannot tell Bauer Fit 3 from CCM Wide. It cannot know that last year’s 8.5 already works.
