Quick answer: Measure the player. Do not assume women need a narrower skate. Female-specific products exist in some categories; unisex products are still valid when they fit.
Skate starting size
US men’s shoe: start about 1.5 sizes down. US women’s shoe: start about 3 sizes down. That is retailer starting guidance, not a last measurement. A skate that already fits beats both formulas.
Female-specific vs unisex
Some manufacturers sell women’s-fit skates, pants, or shoulders with different volume or rise. That is design intent, not a rule that only women may wear them — and it is not a rule that women must buy them.
What we do not do
We do not invent “women have narrow feet.” Width comes from the foot and the last, not from the sex field on the profile.
